Greetings and information from the Steering committee.

Here comes a long overdue newsletter from the steering committee. It has been a somewhat eventful time since our last newsletter was sent. As you might recall we have had a lot of work with forming the Association, to be able to open a bank account. Our treasurer Daniel Peyret - together with David Buick and Philippe Aurouze - has had a huge amount of work to get all the paperwork ready and now, in mid-December. The account is finally ready and about two years of work is finished.

Perfect timing to be able to write that this is a Christmas gift for IPCA Europe and Middle East!

Many of us got the chance to meet in Bangkok for the Worldwide conference, IPCA VIII. And therefore, know that our vice chair Marie-Louise Norozi got elected Worldwide President/CEO of IPCA. Taking over the presidential stole from David Buick, for the forthcoming five years. She has agreed to stay on, serving as the vice chair along with her presidency until her replacement has been co-opted by the steering committee, SC and later also elected at the next General Assembly in 2026. Next year another of the members of the SC will retire, leaving yet another position open for election. This means that we need your help!

If you are interested in a position in the SC of IPCA Europe and the Middle East and are a serving prison chaplain in the region. You are welcome to send and email to our chair Alan Rufli at ipcaeuropechair@gmail.com before January the 16th and he will contact you for more information about the process. If you have any questions around this matter, you are welcome to contact him as well.

All of this is organizational things, important as it is. It is not our main focus as prison chaplains.

We are now entering a very special season for us. Christmas is a difficult time for inmates, longing for their families and loved ones. Despite this, it is a time when the season also might bring out the best in people. When the older inmates take more care of the younger ones. When they write Christmas cards to those who doesn´t get any from the outside and so on.

For us as prison chaplains it is always rewarding to meet this and to be able to bring the Gospel to those who needs to get to know God. To get to know that they are loved and never alone, even though their freedom has been taken away from them.

Salutations et informations du Comité Directeur.

Voici la lettre de nouvelle tant attendue de la part du Comité Directeur. Depuis notre dernière lettre de nouvelle, beaucoup d’événements se sont produits. Vous vous souvenez peut-être que nous avions eu beaucoup de travail pour constituer l’Association et pour ouvrir un compte bancaire. Notre trésorier Daniel Peyret assisté de David Buick et Philippe Aurouze, a eu un énorme travail pour obtenir tous les documents nécessaires mais maintenant à la mi-décembre, le compte est ouvert et près de deux ans de travail se termine.

Un timing parfait pour nous permettre d’écrire que ceci est notre cadeau de Noël pour IPCA EUROPE et Middle East!

Beaucoup parmi nous ont eu la possibilité de se rencontrer à Bangkok pour la conférence mondiale IPCA VIII. Vous savez donc que notre vice présidente a été élue présidente mondiale de IPCA. Elle succède à David Buick, pour un mandat de 5 ans. Elle a accepté de rester en tant que vice présidente européenne tout en étant présidente mondiale jusqu’à ce que son successeur soit désigné par le comité directeur et élu aussi lors de la prochaine assemblée générale en 2026.

L’an prochain, un autre membre du comité directeur va être en retraite, laissant un autre siège vide. Nous avons donc besoin de votre aide.

Si vous êtes intéressé pour siéger au Comité directeur de IPCA Europe et Moyen Orient et si vous exercez en tant qu’aumonier de prison dans notre région, veuillez envoyer un mail à notre président à ipcaeuropechair@gmail.com avant le 16 Janvier 2026. Il vous contactera pour vous donner plus d’informations sur la procédure. Si vous avez des questions à ce sujet, veuillez aussi le contacter.

Tous ces sujets organisationnels, aussi importants soit ils ne sont pas notre principal centre d’attention en tant qu’aumoniers de prison.

Nous entrons maintenant dans une période très particulière pour nous. Noël est une période difficile pour les détenus séparés de leurs familles et de leurs proches. Malgré tout, c’est aussi une période qui peut faire ressortir le meilleur de soi . Où, par exemple, les détenus plus anciens prennent plus soin des nouveaux, où ils écrivent des cartes de Noël à ceux qui n’en reçoivent aucune de l’extérieur, etc...

Pour nous en tant qu’aumoniers de prison, c’est une récompense de constater celà et d’avoir la possibilité d’ apporter l’Évangile à ceux qui ont besoin de connaître Dieu. Leur permettre de découvrir que Dieu les aime et qu’ils ne sont jamais seuls même s’ils sont privés de liberté.
