Nordic prison chaplaincy and prison ministry conference November 2019
It is with the greatest pleasure that you are invited to this year's Nordic conference in Finland in November. The conference will be organized by the Evangelical Lutheran church of Finland/National church council and the Criminal sanctions agency/Central administration unit – and hosted by the National board for prison ministry and prison chaplaincy.
The conference program includes some of the fundamental themes for prison ministry and prison chaplaincy: Right to religion in prisons and the international/national guide lines for that; Prisoners’ religious needs and needs for pastoral care; Practice of religion in prisons and prison chaplaincy in Nordic countries, The role and status of prison chaplain in prison; The ethical challenges for prison chaplaincy and prison ministry; The multicultural and multireligious environment’s effect on prison ministry and prison chaplaincy
Methods for working include presentations as well as working together in small groups and as a large group. Every participant will be invited to contribute to the reflection on the conference themes. The cozy countryside conference hotel provides space to relax with colleagues from neighboring countries informally during the conference evenings.

Lohja Spa & Resort
The Lohja Spa is a versatile spa in Southern Finland, in Karjalohja, on the shore of the Lake Lohja, address: Ylhäntie 1, 09120 Karjalohja, distance from Helsinki ca. 90 km, from Turku ca. 100 km.
Conference bus
Arrival: The conference bus leaves from Tikkurila travel centre at 11 am, and from Helsinki-Vantaa intl. airport at 11.30 am.
Departure: The conference bus leaves from conference site Friday 15.11. at 2.15 pm, arrives to Helsinki-Vantaa intl. airport at ca. 15.45 and to Tikkurila travel centre at ca. 16.15.
The conference fee includes travels by the conference bus.
Local Bus
There are daily bus connections from Helsinki main bus terminal (the Kamppi bus terminal.) In Lohja Spa, the bus arrives and departs from the immediate vicinity of the main entrance.
Bus trip from Helsinki takes about two hours. From Helsinki-Vantaa intl. airport there are both local train and airport bus connections to Helsinki main railway station, the Kamppi bus terminal is ca. 500m from railway station. Timetable for Helsinki-Karjalohja busses: www.matkahuolto.fi and for the airport train and bus connections: www.finavia.fi.
Car
From Helsinki, drive the E18 motorway towards Turku for about 73 km and turn from exit No. 21 to Karjalohja. Continue along the road No. 1072 for about 7 km and then turn left towards Karjalohja. From there to Lohja Spa it is only about 10 km, travel time about 1 hour.
From Turku, drive the E18 motorway towards Helsinki for about 90 km, turn from exit No. 20 to Karjalohja. Continue along the road No. 104 for about 8 km to Sammatti, where signpost points towards Karjalohja. The trip from Sammatti to Lohja Spa about 10 km, travel time about 1.5 hours.
Accommodation
There are both single and double rooms. The rooms are furnished with a shower, toilet, telephone, TV and a hairdryer.
Meals: The conference fee includes all the meals as stated in the conference program.
Spa: The conference fee includes free use of spa.
Evenings
There is a hotel restaurant and a bar, where one can stay together and buy drinks. At Thursday evening there is a social evening with some informal program, drinks and snacks will be served.
Conference fee is 450€/double room, 550€/single room.
Extra night before conference
Pre-conference extra night for accommodation (Monday-Tuesday) costs 55€/double room, 89€/single room.
