June 2023 saw 90 prison chaplains from 15 nations across Europe (and indeed beyond) gather in Llandudno to consider the importance of caring for ourselves as we care for others. The conference was deliberately established to create opportunities to learn and opportunities to reflect. Sunday to Tuesday were spent gathering together in Gloddaeth United Church where we heard from a range of speakers including the Norwegian Psychologist Per Isdal, the Chaplain General of England and Wales Ven James Ridge, and Tim Dixon, the IPCA Worldwide European rep amongst others. The sessions were recorded and can be watched on the IPCA Europe YouTube Channel
Wednesday and Thursday of the conference saw the focus turn toward retreat with options to walking in the Welsh mountains, visiting a local prison, taking a history walk, engaging in meditation or making the most of the great weather in some quiet and personally reflective way. On Wednesday evening we were entertained roundly both by the Welsh Male Voice Choir Cor Colwyn, and in an old IPCA favourite ... the cultural evening. Thank you to all who took part so engagingly. I think that our ears are still all wringing from the sounds of alpine cries across the valleys!
On Thursday we welcomed in our new committee and said goodbye to the old. It really felt like a significant step forward as IPCA Europe continues to engage with and support all engaged in this wonderful ministry that is Prison Chaplaincy across Europe. You can meet the new committee on the "Who We Are" page.
